Tokyo Guide : Kappabashi Dogugai (河童橋道具街)
Kappabashi Dogugai (合羽橋道具街) is the largest cooking tool district in Japan, located adjacent to the Asakusa area.
Established in the Taisho era (1912-1926), Kappabashi Dogugai developed as a wholesale district for cooking utensils, tableware, and other items for the restaurant industry, and is now lined with nearly 200 stores, making it a tourist attraction visited by people from Japan and abroad.
Photo taken in front of my favorite Japanese ceramic shop “Dengama (田窯)”. And the giant statue of chef, as a landmark of the entrance for Kappabashi Dogugai.
Not only can you buy chopsticks, knives, tea utensils, and other tableware for daily use at reasonable prices, but you can also find everything from the huge dimpled pots and hot water dispensers you see at ramen shops to food samples, signboards, and take-out containers familiar to restaurants.
As a wholesale district, many stores are closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays, and many close around 5:00 pm. Also, some stores accept cash only, so if you usually use cashless payment, it would be safer to have cash ready.

The closest station to the Kappabashi kitchenware street is Tawaramachi station (田原町駅), Ginza-line. You can also walk from JR Ueno station (上野駅) and it takes about 15 minutes.
